Mother/Daughter Photo Shoot at Kountze Lake in Belmar Park

When Kellie Swanson asked me to photograph her and her daughter Annabelle, 4, recently, I suggested we do it at Kountze Lake at Belmar Park in Lakewood. It’s a beautiful spot that has a covered bridge over the lake, a small inlet good for taking photos with kids, a gazebo, an island in the middle of the lake occupied by several species of birds, and a nice walking trail that loops 1.8 miles around the lake. It’s a perfect spot for taking kids because the photo opportunities are not that far in so they don’t have to walk too far.

We started our shoot on the grassy area between the parking lot and Kountze Lake where you get a nice view of Green Mountain. As we headed onto the trail, Annabelle saw the inlet of water and wanted to check it out. This spot made for some nice photos of the mother daughter duo.

This inlet of the pond is great for photographing kids.

After spending some time photographing them by the water, we walked onto the covered bridge and did some really nice shots in there. It’s a photographer’s dream location for creating images!

I’ve photographed at Kountze Lake in spring, summer and fall. Any season will work at this beautiful spot because of the many visual elements and the lack of crowds.
